Week 39

FINAL WEEK OF SECOND GRADE!

It is hard to believe our students will be third graders in only FOUR MORE DAYS!  

We have enjoyed teaching your children!


Until then... this is what is in store for this week:
*MONDAY, FINAL PBIS store and visit to the fourth grade mall
*TUESDAY, "END of year second grade party in the afternoon!"
*WEDNESDAY, FINAL CLEAN UP DAY!
*THURSDAY, wear your class t-shirt for OLYMPIC DAY!

Week 38

ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS LEFT OF SCHOOL!
Our last day is Thursday, June 6th which is also OLYMPIC DAY! 

 Please have your child wear his/her class t-shirt on this day!

Week 37

THREE WEEKS LEFT OF SECOND GRADE!

This week we will continue working on Module 8 in math, opinion writing, and reading books in a series.  We look forward to wrapping up our lessons in grammar as well as begin to clean out our rooms.

PLEASE talk with your child regarding proper behavior in school.  We all have the "itch" for summer break but must follow the Mann Motto while in school.

WEEK 36

ONLY FOUR MORE WEEKS OF SECOND GRADE!

THANK YOU PARENTS for all the "treats" given to us for TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!
We all truly feel blessed to have such thoughtful parents!


This week we will begin Module 8 in math on GEOMETRY!  
Terms such as edges, lines, vertices will be taught this week!


In reading we will continue working on our SERIES BOOKS!

If anyone has gently used or new "SUMMER TOYS" to send in for our FINAL PBIS store, please send them to school or to the front office for Mrs. Sullivan!

Week 35

There are only 5 weeks of second grade!  WOW!  TIME IS FLYING!

This Monday we will have the OAK PARK SAFETY TRAILER VISIT!
PLEASE make sure your child knows his/her address and phone number.  The firemen will be doing a "MOCK 911" call.

This week we will also continue working on the second part of the MAP test in reading.
ARMSTRONG and JERKATIS will test on Monday, May 6th
MARIANI, GERMANIER, and MACFARLANE will test Tuesday, May 7th

TUESDAY, May 7th,  will be our END OF MODULE 7 test.

Please have your child get s good night's rest and healthy breakfast before heading to school the morning of the MAP test.

Week 34

ONLY 6 WEEKS OF SECOND GRADE LEFT!

This week the second grade classes will begin our FINAL round of MAP testing!
Our times of testing are different for each class.  

Here is the schedule~
Thursday, May 2nd Germanier, Mariani, and MacFarlane classes will begin with Math.
Friday, May 3rd Jerkatis and Armstrong will test the math portion.

There is NO HOMEWORK the evening prior to the MAP test.  Please be sure your child gets a good nights rest and a tasty breakfast before coming to school on testing day.  😏

We will cover the following lessons in math... Lessons 21, 22, 24, and 25
(we are skipping lesson 23)

Week 33

We hope everyone enjoyed the three day weekend!  
The countdown is 7 weeks left of school.  😏


This week we will begin our FINAL unit of Reading called, 
"Series Book Club!"  

In reading we will be looking at various books from a series.  If your child has any books he/she would like to bring in and share, please send them into school.

*In writing we will be "Writing About Reading!"This unit involves opinion writing.
*Math Module 7 will continue with 4 lessons this week!  

Also, this Friday, April 26,  second grade will be having an in-school field trip. Histories for Kids is coming to Mann School to perform "Tall Tales".  This program will feature wonderful tales from American history and literature.  We are looking forward to this performance.

Week 32

We are down to our FINAL 8 weeks of second grade!
It is hard to believe that this school year is coming to an end.

This week we have 4 days of school and will be OFF on Friday, April 19th.  Please plan accordingly.

We will finish our Reading/Writing units this week and will have a "mid-module" math test on Thursday, April 18th.  

The week of April 29th will begin our final MAP assessment.

Week 31

COGAT testing should be wrapping up for any classes that are not finished.  

This week we will continue with Module 7 in math on data, money, and time!  Please count coins with your child at home for practice.  Your child may come across these topics on the upcoming MAP test!  The MAP test will begin the week of April 29th and conclude the week of May 6.

Tuesday, April 9th,  students will be practicing bus safety with "Bus Evacuation Drills"

Also, on Friday, April 26  second grade will be having an in-school field trip. Histories for Kids is coming to Mann School to perform "Tall Tales".  This program will feature wonderful tales from American history and literature.  We are looking forward to this performance.

Week 30

Welcome back from SPRING BREAK!  I hope everyone had a relaxing time with your family!

This week begins the COGAT testing for second grade.  We will officially begin on Wednesday.  There are a total of 9 sections on this test.  3 sections of each subtest... (Verbal, Nonverbal, and Quantitative) 
We have gone over a practice test before spring break week.  Please be sure your child gets a good night's rest Tuesday night and eats a healthy breakfast.  

Please remember that Tuesday, April 2nd is NO SCHOOL due to Institute Day.

Week 29

FINAL WEEK OF SCHOOL BEFORE SPRING BREAK BEGINS!

This week, the math Module 6 test will be held on Wednesday.  We are wrapping up the final lessons in this unit.  Please review with your child at home.

In reading/writing, we are still working on nonfiction and learning how to write like a scientist!

The COGAT assessment (The Cognitive Abilities Test) dates are now available.  The CogAT testing window is Wednesday, April 3 - Wednesday, April 17

Week 28

Two weeks to go for SPRING BREAK!  WHOO!  We are at the home stretch!  Until then we are working HARD on writing like a scientist and doing research in our BOOK CLUBS!  The kids are having a BLAST finding various facts on nonfiction books!  

In math we will wrap up Module 6 by the end of this week and will plan on having the end assessment on Wednesday before break.  (March 20h)

Week 27

In math we will take the "mid-module" assessment for Module 6 on Tuesday, March 5th.

Week 26

We are back to a FULL WEEK of school this week and ending the month of February!
Spring break is around the corner!

This week we will conclude our reading/writing units and end POETRY!

We will work on the next 5 math lessons in Module 6!  The students are doing well with repeated addition and multiplication!

Week 25

I hope everyone enjoyed the extra long weekend with having OFF on President's Day!

This week we will begin MODULE 6 in our math book on MULTIPLICATION!
We will cover lessons 1-4 and take the PRE-TEST!

In writing we are still working on POETRY and we will soon begin learning about government in Social Studies!

Week 24

Thank you, parents, for meeting with your child's teacher for conferences.  If you have any questions as we finish up the school year, please e-mail your child's teacher.

This week is a short week with having FRIDAY, Feb. 15th OFF and Monday, Feb. 18th OFF for President's Day!  

Valentine exchange/party planning is done separately for each homeroom.  It is up to the homeroom teacher and head room parent to plan parties that take place in class.

Valentine cards/treats may be brought to school on Thurs. Feb. 14th.  Please check class size with our homeroom teacher.

There will also be a Bullying assembly held in the afternoon of Feb. 14th.

Week 22

Parent/Teacher Conferences begin this week!  Please make sure to contact your child's teacher if you cannot make your scheduled time.  

Thursday and Friday are both HALF days for kids.  School gets out at 11:00 a.m.  There are NO MANN POWER classes this week due to conferences.  

Upcoming dates off school are Friday, Feb. 15th and Monday, Feb. 18th

Second grade will be holding Valentine's Day parties on Thursday, Feb. 14th in the afternoon.

Week 21

MAP testing will continue this week!

*Germanier, Mariani, and MacFarlane will take the READING portion on Tuesday, January 22nd
Jerkatis and Armstrong will take READING on Thursday, January 24th

BAS testing has also started and will conclude the week of conferences

Parent Teacher Conference will be on Thursday, January 31
Both Thursday (1/31) and Friday (2/1) will be half days~ dismissal will be at 11:00
Please fill in and return the following form to school if interested in having Mrs. Hauser watch your child during Thursday afternoon

Week 20

This week begins MAP testing for WINTER!  Please make sure your child get's a good night's rest and eats a healthy breakfast before coming to school on testing day.  The schedule is as follows:

*Germanier, Mariani, and MacFarlane will begin with MATH on Thursday, January 17th 
Jerkatis and Armstrong will also take MATH first on Friday, January 18th.

*Germanier, Mariani, and MacFarlane will take the READING portion on Tuesday, January 22nd
Jerkatis and Armstrong will take READING on Thursday, January 24th

**Math Mid-Module test is this TUESDAY.  Please review module 4 with your child.**


PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR HALF DAYS FOR PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES!
It will be held  Thurs. Jan. 31st and Fri. Feb. 1st.
School will be dismissed at 11:00 AM on both days.  



ALSO, Monday, 1/21 there is NO SCHOOL in honor of MLK day!
